A Giveaway!

Hey everyone!  I haven't posted on my blog in well.... far to long! So I should be updating everyone with photos or something about how I'm still here in Tennessee! However the thing to pull me out of my writing/blog posting "vacation" was a giveaway! I know how silly but one of my favorite blogs Bramblewood Fashion is hosting a giveaway for these lovely pair of earrings from Truly Enchanted Jewelry an Etsy shop that sells some stunning pieces of jewelry.

I don't have my ears pierced. However I've seriously been thinking that I would like to get my ears re-pierced and why not have some beautiful earrings to wear if I do! Well go and check out the giveaway at Ashley's blog

A "Vinatge" Video {Long Post Alert!}

Since being here at Above Rubies I have been able to be part of a lot of fun and interesting experiences. One such experience is acting and helping with the making of a short music video! It all came about when two sisters, Loretta and Jessica, came to Above Rubies from Australia. They volunteered for Above Rubies about three years ago and made a short movie called, The Great Rebellion, which most of the Campbell grandchildren starred in. Well all the children really wanted to do another movie when they found out that Jessica and Loretta were coming back. However they aren't here long enough to do a movie, so we decided to do a music video! We (Jessica, Rashida, and I) wrote the words of the song with inspiration from the 1950's song "Rockin' Robin". We changed the words to fit what the Campbell's grandchildren do on the land. Most of the video has shots with the children but there are a few fun scenes that Loretta, Jessica, Rebekah(volunteer from Idaho), Meadow, Rashida, and I got to take part in. Since the song has a 50's feel to it we decided to do some scenes dressed in 50's inspired clothing. I'm hoping to post the video on my blog when it's ready. For now you will just have to look at some behind the scenes photos.
These photos were a lot of fun; I loved my 50's inspired outfit! I would love to wear more outfits like this one for everyday! My shirt is actually a dress Jessica let me use. I then tucked it into a polka dot skirt from Meadow and to give the outfit a finished look added the belt from Rashida and the necklace, also from Meadow.
Here is Rebekah(from Idaho) in a very farm girl 50's outfit. Doesn't she look cute on that tractor?! She is wearing one of Meadow's shirts. Actually Jessica wore one of Meadow's dresses. Thanks Meadow for supplying us with some of your cute and vintage inspired clothing!
Our talented make up artist Rashida doing her own make up!
Jessica and Loretta know some different ballroom dances, one of them is the Jive which they have been teaching us girls. Here we are doing it for the video.
Here's a cool shot of the camera filming Meadow and Loretta dancing the Jive!
Of course we had to crowd around the camera and see one of our scenes!
I love the angle of this shot! Rashida who is actually a very talented photographer, you can see some of her work here, had to "take" some photos of us for the video.
Our talented director, Jessica, not only did she film most of the video; she also edited the entire thing by herself! Thanks Jessica for your labor of love!

And to finish off the photos, although I could post more, here is a lovely photo of us girls! From left to right: Rebekah, Loretta, Jessica, Rashida, Meadow, and me.I hope you enjoyed the photos!

Have you been up to any interesting projects lately?
Ever been in a film before?
Ever made a "home" video before?

Mother's Day

I just wanted to say a few words about my mother since it is in fact Mother's Day! I thank God so much for blessing me with a mother like mine. She has really taught me so much about how to walk with God not only as a Christian, but as a women of God. I also have to say thank you to my mother because without her I wouldn't have such a love for beautiful, vintage, feminine, or lovely things. My mom likes to make things special no matter how small thy may seem like placing the eggs in our fridge in a brown ceramic bowl instead if leaving them in the carton. Or taking lots of care with her creative and beautifully arranged vignettes scattered throughout the house. Everyday she is trying to think of new ways to add beauty and loveliness to our home and lives! Thank you so much Momma for guiding, providing, caring, teaching, and loving not only me but Marty, Lydia, and Drew! You have done a splendid job of being a Christ honoring mother and I hope to follow your example one day! Thank you for all that you have sacrificed for us, so that we would never go without. I love you so much to the moon and back; actually to the farthest galaxy and back! Happy Mother's Day Momma!

Shooting Through Space!

Okay, I know this is a little late but this past Monday, Mercy(Mr. and Mrs. Campbell’s daughter adopted from Liberia), Rebekah(helping at Above Rubies, from Idaho), and I went outside around nine to watch the meteor shower that was taking place between April the 16th-25th. The night we went out, April 22nd, was the peak of the meteor shower.
We were out there for a while before we actually saw a shooting star, we did get to see several though! It was so funny when we would all scream out “Look! There’s one...oh no that’s just a plane!” ;)
I was so excited when I saw that little flash of light flying through the air. If I blinked for less than a second I would have missed the shooting star entirely. When I saw one I almost didn’t realize I did because of the speed in which the little light flicked out. I couldn’t help but think about God and His awesome creation. He loves us so much that even in a sin cursed world He gives us so many wonderful “shows” in His creation, like that meteor shower.
Did you go out to see the meteor shower?

Have you ever seen one before?

God is Good!

Hello dearies! Here I am to share a testimony of God's hand of provision and protection. If any of you don’t know I’m currently volunteering for a wonderful ministry, Above Rubies, and have been for the past five months. I first mentioned it in this post here. Well this past weekend I was given the opportunity to go to one of the family retreats Above Rubies has all over the United States. These retreats are a great opportunity for families to be encouraged as they follow God’s biblical vision for them. Well I could(and should) write a post about the great times we had at this retreat which by the way was in Missouri. However the story I want to share the most is one of God’s providential hand upon us as we returned home. We were already out of Missouri, had passed through Illinois, were in Kentucky, 77 miles away from Nashville, and about 7 hours into the trip when…we got a flat tire!

Mr. Campbell pulled over on the side of the road , got out, and began to look for the wrench. He did not find it right away so he began to pull all the stuff out of the trunk; did I mention there were five women including me! Can you imagine all the luggage, plus four boxes of books, a guitar, and a cooler all piled up on the side of the interstate?! Well Mr. Campbell nor any of us ladies could find the wrench under any of the seats. What was Mr. Campbell to do? He had no wrench to get the bolts off the tire! Thankfully he was able to flag someone down to help. All this time Mr. Campbell wouldn't allow us to get out of the car, but when the two men who came to help started jacking the car up, there was no way us girls would stay in the car. ;) So out we came onto the side of the interstate joining our mound of stuff and the three men trying to now locate the spare tire! Thankfully this was mostly at night so we didn't start a traffic jam with lots of on lookers.
Anyway back to the spare tire; Mr. Campbell and the two men who were helping searched everywhere for the tire but couldn't find it! So even if we had a wrench, it wouldn't have done us any good since we didn't even have the spare! I know you’re thinking this sounds terrible, “I’m not seeing where God’s hand is on this situation!”, oh just wait for this… the two men who stopped to help(which will remain nameless because I don’t remember their names) went a few miles away to get us a “fix a flat” kit. They did not even let Mr. Campbell pay for it. The men fixed the tire and then drove in front of us to see if we could make it on our own to a motel room some miles back. We drove a little ways and then turned back but “POP!”, again the tire blew! When they noticed we had stopped they backed up until they were right in front of us. They offered to drive us to the motel even though it would mean taking two trips, since we could not all fit in their little car. In the first trip went Mr. Campbell, Rashida, and Meadow (who are the Campbell’s grand daughters); then Mrs. Campbell, Rebekah(another girl volunteering from Idaho) and I.
In the car ride the man driving told us that he wouldn't normally be going the way he was, but they(he and his friend) were coming back from hearing a friend of their’s preach! They were so friendly; every time we said thank you they just acted like it was nothing. Like they went out of their way for complete strangers all the time! We arrived at the hotel and said good bye and one last thank you. After the two men left Mrs. Campbell told us that they paid for both of our motel rooms, one for her and Mr. Campbell and one for us girls, without excepting a "no". I still can’t believe all the kindness these men did for us, strangers who just expected a hand with a flat tire, instead they went above and beyond to help us. Above all though was God who orchestrated this entire situation. I don’t know why we got a flat tire so close to home, maybe it was just because He wanted us to be reminded of how much He loves and cares for us. I guess I’ll end the story here and just say how thankful I am to be back in Tennessee safe and sound! And praise God for His goodness and protection over us!

I ♥ Thursday{no.4}

So here is what I am loving this week:

My grandparent's 52nd Anniversary was this past Monday{the 8th} and here is their wedding photo. I absolutely love my great grandmothers' and grandmother's {now} vintage 50's dresses! And of course my great grandfathers' and grandfather's suites! Those were the days when people really knew how to dress!

I am so loving greek yogurt with berries and stevia{a healthy way to satisfy your sweet tooth}. Another good combination peanut butter plus banana,Yummy! Just make sure you get plain greek yogurt. :)

I so love all the scripture I see on Facebook! Here are just two amazing scripture about the love we have in Christ.

Here is a simple but cute nature shadowbox which I have pinned here. The shadow box pictured is decorated for Autumn but would be so cute to do for every season!

I can't wait to do these shadow puppets with some of the Campbell's grandchildren! It would be so much fun to do with little children{big children too}!

So what have you been loving this week?

1Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the tomb, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. 2And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. 3And they entered in, and FOUND NOT THE BODY OF THE LORD JESUS. 4And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: 5And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, “Why seek ye the living among the dead? 6HE IS NOT HERE, BUT IS RISEN: remember how he spoke unto you when he was yet in Galilee, 7Saying, “The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” 8And they remembered His words, 9And returned from the tomb, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. ~Luke 24:1-9~

Happy Easter everyone! Today is the day we, as the saved in Christ, remember that Jesus rose from the grave defeating death! Praise God I serve Jesus Christ the living Savior!

I entered another contest this time for an online store called Ruche, which sells cute vintage inspired clothing, shoes, and accessories.

All I had to do was create a board on Pinterest of my dream tea party. Well I didn't win the $100 prize but pinning to my new tea party board, A Spot of Tea Please, was fun!

So have you entered any giveaways/contests lately?

Spring is Here!

Today is the first official day of spring and it was a beautiful day! In honor of spring I thought I would put a few pictures of some flowers that bloomed last year in my yard{meaning my yard back home}, well here they are.

Here is a crocus, hyacinth, and lily of the valley; so pretty!

And here is a beautiful orange and yellow tulip. Love the bright colors!

Just a close up of one of the petals. Whenever I see such bright and varied colors in nature I can't help but think I serve an awesome and creative God. There is no way any one could say He does not love color.

Here are some more brightly colored tulips, purple and red.

I just love this photo! I love the close up of the tulip and our brick house in the back ground.

Here are some tulips just beginning to pop out of the ground. Look how they are pushing up the mulch; they are so desperate to get out in the sun!

A pretty little violet, my mom's favorite flower.

Last but not least some blooms on our cherry blossom tree, absolutely lovely!

"For as the earth bringeth forth her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth; so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations." Isaiah 61:11 KJV

So what is your favorite thing about spring?

I ♥ Thursday{no. 3}

Wow it has been a few weeks since I've done an I ♥ Thursday post, but here it is:

I have recently rediscovered this adorable blog, Cynthia's Cottage Design, where Cynthia creates pretty little miniatures for her cute shabby chic inspired miniature home,"Summer Rose". You should really check it out.

Love what this picture has to say, I think it fits me perfect!

I recently watched The Adventures of Tin Tin and I really enjoyed it! Now I want to read the comics! Becky(Above Rubies helper from New Zealand) grew up with the Tin Tin comics and says they are worth the read.

I have worn my grey cardigan just about everyday this week. It is so cozy yet cute; it really pulls together an outfit. Mine is similar to the one shown except shorter. It is Old Navy brand, but I bought it at Goodwill for a little less than five dollars.

Well what are you loving this week?

Jane Eyre

WARNING: If you haven't seen this movie and wish not to know what happens,  please do not read this post. :)
It just now occurred to me that a couple of weekends ago I watched Jane Eyre which is something I wrote down on my list. I watched the most recent film from 2011. Surprisingly I enjoyed it; I didn't really know what the story was about. From what I knew it was a sad and creepy movie. Well it is sad and I guess a little creepy, but overall I liked it.
Favorite Character: I will definitely go with Jane(Mia Wasikowska). She goes through so much in her childhood and she never seems bitter. She forgives her wicked aunt after everything she does to her and she was very grateful to those who show her even a little bit of kindness. Jane tries to be happy and content. She does not let her circumstances sway her beliefs. For instance even though she is deeply in love with Mr. Rochester she does not marry him because he is still married.
Least Favorite Character: Jane's aunt is so mean to her and shows no love to her. She treats her son like he is a prince and never does any wrong. She spoiled him while showing Jane no kindness. Jane's aunt also lies to her about an uncle who so longed to see Jane.
Favorite Scene: The best scene in the entire movie is at the end when Mr. Rochester(Michael Fassbender) and Jane "see" each other again. The ending was a lot happier than I expected it to be. I just knew when Jane walked up to the house and saw it burnt down that Mr. Rochester was dead. Although it is a bitter sweet moment because Mr. Rochester has lost his eye site from the fire.  They are now able to marry and I  hope live happily ever after.
Least Favorite Scene: There are so many scenes that I don't like. All those scenes when Jane was in the school are so sad. The way the schoolmaster and teachers treated those poor girls; it was terrible. Then there is a scene when Jane's aunt locks her in a room by herself and ashes come out of the fireplace. I'm not sure if her aunt did that or if it just happened. Jane was so frightened she started beating on the door to get out. Then she began to beat her head on the door and knocked herself out. I can just tell how scared she was.
Pros: The acting was excellent and I was very convinced that Jane and Mr. Rochester were in love. Jane does not seem to harbor bitterness even after all that happens to her.
Cons: The movie is quite dark and some what scary, especially the scene when Mr. Rochester's friend is stabbed and Jane walks to the wall and hears someone on the other side of it. I don't like that Mr. Rochester has a wife  and lied to Jane about it. It wasn't right of him to ask her to marry him and not tell her. I watched this movie with a ClearPlay filter, so my viewing of the movie was different from what the normal viewing of the movie would be. I know there is a scene where Jane sees a picture of a nude women so I would strongly recommend caution when watching this movie. That scene was thankfully cut out do to the ClearPlay filter.

Have you seen Jane Eyre, this one or a different version?
Please leave a comment and let me know!

What I Wore~ Blue n' Black

I have been wanting to do a "What I Wore" post for some time. Ashley at Bramblewood Fashion has really inspired me to dress cuter in my day to day outfits. That being said here's what I wore to church today.
Becky{Above Rubies helper from New Zealand} did a photo shoot with me after the church service. It was a lot of fun except for the fact that her camera kept shutting itself off. Those pesky cameras... never want  to work.
I wore a navy blue polka dot skirt that I've had forever with a black sweater. With this I wore black tights and my little black flats. It was a very simple outfit but it was still cute and modest. I can't wait to get home and try this outfit with my black oxfords! Wouldn't that be cute? Also I think this outfit would look good with a red clutch or some sort of red accessories. this outfit has a slight retro feel which I love. I'm trying to wear more vintage inspired outfits as I love ahem... all things vintage! ;)
Black Sweater: from a friend, free
Blue Polka Dot Skirt: thrifted years ago, couldn't have been more than $5.00
Black Tights: gift, free
Black Flats: Wal Mart a few years ago, probably not more than $10.00
Entire outfit cost around $15.00! Not bad, eh?
